When you log on to the Spytec GPS web app, you may see that one of your trackers is grayed out and has not updated its location. If you click on the icon and see the message “Tracker doesn’t have GPS signal. You may need to reposition,” this means that your tracker has lost its connection with the GPS satellites.
To Resolve This Issue:
There are a couple of factors that affect the device’s GPS connection.
The placement of the device on the vehicle:
-
-
This can usually be resolved by repositioning the tracker. This is because the device’s current positioning might be blocking the connection to the GPS satellites.
-
You’ll want to make sure that you’re not placing the device in an enclosed space, such as a glove box or trunk, as the signal can have trouble communicating.
-
For additional positioning tips, please see our article: Where should I place the tracker for use on a vehicle?
-
The location of the vehicle is blocking the GPS signal:
-
-
-
This could happen when the vehicle is parked in an area where the GPS connection is blocked, such as when it’s in an underground parking garage.
-
When this happens, it’s best to watch for the vehicle to leave the area where it initially lost signal to make sure it reacquires a GPS connection.
-
-
If you have the device in hand:
-
Checking the blue GPS LED light by moving it back and forth will let you know the status of the GPS connection:
-
When flashing blue, the tracker is searching for a GPS connection.
-
When solid blue, the tracker has acquired a GPS connection.
