There are a number of reasons why your Spytec GPS tracker may not be displaying your tracking information correctly in the platform or app. These can range from installation and placement issues to connectivity issues. In this article we will take a look at all the potential issues that may be affecting your tracker.
After creating your Spytec GPS account and activating your tracker following our guide here, you may still be having trouble viewing the tracking data from your tracker. One of the first things to check is the hardware itself. All of our trackers have LED indicators on the device to give a clue into any issues the tracker may be experiencing. This can range from a power issue to a cellular network outage. Please see our LED indicator guide here
The next potential issue we want to address is the placement of the tracker. This will typically apply to tracking vehicles, but is applicable to all uses. Our GPS devices need to have access to open “sky” if you will, meaning they need to have access to open space to send and receive the signals from the GPS satellites as well as push the location data to our servers. If the tracker is placed improperly or is in an area with little cellular coverage, services may be limited. For more information on placing your tracker properly, please see our guide here.
Tracker Status Messages
The next thing to check is the tracker’s status in the app/platform. There is a chance the platform may give you a message stating that tracking is not available. This is typically an issue with newly activated trackers and the system will update the device as soon as it can. For more details, please take a look at the article here.
There are also connectivity issues that can happen following activation. The Spytec GPS platform will usually inform you of these issues so that they can be resolved as quickly as possible. For more details on these tracker status issues, please see our article here.
